When I think about the art of slow living, a little village by the sea, with a beach down the cliff and a tiny whitewashed church come to mind. Friendly dogs strolling the narrow cobblestone streets and the smell of grilled fish in the air are also part of the picture.
The Cacela Velha village in Algarve meets all the above description, except it prides itself with two endless beaches. We’d heard before that Fabrica beach is one of the most beautiful in the world, so we took the boat to see for ourselves. It is beautiful.
Too bad we were just stopping over for dinner. We’ll be back, Cacela Velha, hold us a seat on the little bench, next to the fortress overlooking the sea. And another seat at Casa de Igreja with all the fresh shellfish from Ria Formosa estuary.
